It is very important to Arise Africa that people of Uganda are healthy and able to serve this nation profitably. To achieve this our Medical department has continued to carry out its operations in several districts of Uganda; providing curative and public health care services to Ugandans in rural communities with limited existing medical care. Arise Africa staff administers these services in bi-weekly curative treatment and counseling sessions, and monthly Public Health Training Seminars in conjunction with Arise Africa Churches, Communities, Volunteers, Government Health Centers, and the Local Government. 2002- 2003
In 2002 – 2003 through community based health education programs we reached and ministered to the communities of Bukaleba, Bulama, Buyengo and Buuma in a holistic approach:

SPIRITUALLY
Medical department uses its program as an oppo
rtunity to share Christ leading to many accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior.

PHYSICALLY
Through curative programs thousands of families have been reached with sufficient medical treatment of the common diseases like Malaria,
Diarrhea, Worms, Dysentery, and Skin fungus infections among others.

In Partnership with Arise Africa International a team from U.K. led by Dr Jan we trained 25 people from 25 Communities as community health workers. These were trained in using the book, “WHERE THERE IS NO DOCTOR and a training Kit was given to them to use when serving in the communities.

Thereafter, the department (Medical) trained 24 people from 4 communities who are now training others.

PUBLIC HEALTH A crowd waiting for medical attention
Four rural communities in three districts of Uganda were educated on good sanitation. This helped the communities to reach a good standard of health, raising the standard of living in homes. This developed team work as communities were encouraged to get together in solving their problems to enhance their development.

2003 -2004
In 2003 we performed follow up: Putting an emphasis on our curative and public health programs in communities, Arise Africa in partnership with Mission Link, Rick Via, and U.K teams held medical crusades at Government Health Centers where over 12,035 people received free medical treatment as well as the gospel of Christ preached to them.
We also extended our program to other districts covering seven districts reaching eleven communities namely: Naminya Mukono Buwuma Mukono Bukaleba Mayuge Busaana Mukono
Kikonge Nabigwali Kaliro Namwendwa Kamuli Kakombo Iganga Nakalama Iganga Namayingo Bugiri Bulama Jinja

Collecting results from those who were trained. The results indicated great progress in Community Hygiene especially in fighting malaria through clearing bushes around homes, emptying materials with stagnant water, and boiling drinking water, as well as installing standard toilets.

Surveying and learning the problems at the grassroots level and giving advise where needed; among the problems identified was rampant increase of HIV/Aids. Sensitization was done and many victims were advised to go for testing and register with TASO for help.

2004 – 2005

In 2004 the medical department focused on:
Empowering Churches to help expand its services in educating people. We shared our purpose with the local Chiefs who helped us organize massive community seminars.
We continued visitations to communities where we operate and nine thousand seven hundred and twenty six (9,726) people were reached through Arise Africa International medical crusades with mission Link International and Rick Via Ministries and the department’s normal services.

The gospel of Christ was preached to them and handouts in terms of clothes and other gifts given to them. Through mobilization, sensitization, and motivation many HIV/AIDS patients opened up, raising a high demand to be supported and counseled. They were given handouts in the form of food, clothing, and supplies, and were referred to TASO for further help.

The ministry donated Shs680, 000= to two children; one suffering from a broken femur and the other osteomalyts of the femur bone. They were able to go to the hospital for an operation and today they are healed and strong to serve our nation.
2005 -2006

In 2005 the medical ministry expanded in many ways. 8,261 people were reached during our medical crusades with visiting teams from U.S.A. In February Arise Africa International donated the 1st Bicycle ambulance to Nawangoma Health centre (Jinja District) through funds donated by Antricham Baptist Church through A.A.I. Statistics show that the Bicycle Ambulance has helped transport a total of 325 sick people and women in Labor from five communities.

A team of dental doctors from U.K. led by Barbra serving with Christian Relief Uganda partnered with Arise Africa International medical team, reaching out to communities with dental services. As a result, 579 people had their bad teeth extracted. Arise Africa donated Medical Kits worth 2 million shillings to some of the Health Units in Mayuge, Busia and Jinja District. This included medical uniforms, theater gowns, blood pressure machines, and dressings amongst others.

2006 – 2007
The medical ministry continued to execute its vision to reach out in different zones providing seminars and training more volunteers to help the communities in sanitation.
Fighting some common diseases.
Involving local chiefs in fighting ignorance through educative seminars.
Twenty bicycle ambulances were donated and distributed in 20 health units and are now serving in the districts of Jinja Iganga, Kaliro and Mayuge.
The ministry encouraged every home to have Public Conveniences.
Those trained as community Health Workers in some zones are continuing with educating homes and communities.
Churches were encouraged to get involved to help their people.

2007 - 2008
In the year 2007 our main target is:
To see that many homes have a good standard of living hygienically.
To see people come out of ignorance.
To raise funds for putting up good toilets in areas like the landing sites.
To collaborate with other N.G.O’S to intensify our vision.
To see that people are spiritually motivated.
To provide preventative measures where possible.

ACHIEVEMENTS:
Through Arise Africa medical ministry rural communities that had no access to medical facilities now have access to curative services for communicable diseases like malaria, diarrhea, worms, dysentery, and malnutrition- reducing the death rate of many Ugandans.
The Medical department reaches out to between 80-120 patients monthly on normal operations. An average of 8,000 patients on major missions with Mission Link International, Rick Via Ministries, and other visiting teams yearly have been treated.
Primary health care and hygiene education has been brought to the communities improving hygiene in the communities and homes. Over 1,000 families have been reached
Community health workers have been trained to be able to train others.
Counseling in family planning and HIV / AIDS has been completed.
Communities have benefited from toilets, boreholes, and bicycle ambulances.
This has been a very effective tool in strengthening communities towards development, as well as helping people understand Christ.

CHALLENGES:
Limited funds to fulfill all plans.
Transportation, especially to areas that have poor roads.
Facilitation in some areas is needed to enable progress
Trained health workers serve in hardships because they walk on foot to reach out in the communities voluntarily. They support themselves, which can greatly weaken the services.
